Where volcanic wilderness meets modern technology, a world-class aviation hub has taken shape on Russia’s remote Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. The new Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport (Yelizovo Airport) has stunned the world not only with its crater-inspired, UFO-like futuristic architecture, but also with an efficient vertical-transportation system tailored for polar conditions. Backed by 31 elevators and escalators supplied by Sicher Elevator, the airport has become a modern gateway linking the peninsula with the rest of the world.
Located on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the new Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport features an architectural form inspired by a volcanic crater. Galleries radiate outward from the main terminal, while its massive oval windows enhance the building’s futuristic flair, evoking the image of a flying saucer.
The new terminal’s passenger service area covers 36,900 square meters. Designed to handle 687 passengers per hour, the check-in hall is equipped with 30 counters. For the first time in the region, a fully enclosed passenger-flow corridor system has been adopted—an essential feature for Kamchatka’s unpredictable weather conditions. The terminal currently has five boarding bridges, with capacity to expand to a total of eight.
As a core equipment provider for the project, Sicher Elevator delivered 31 customized elevators and escalators, precisely engineered to meet the operational demands of a modern airport. These solutions ensure seamless passenger movement across all zones, supporting both regional travel and intercontinental aviation needs.
Looking ahead, Sicher will continue to deliver safe, intelligent, and eco-friendly vertical-transportation solutions to iconic projects worldwide—demonstrating the strength and reliability of Chinese brands on the global stage.
